SSa doubles the places to study a medical specialty

The number of places to study a medical specialty through the National Exam for Applicants for Medical Residency (ENARM) it doubled between 2019 and 2022. With this, it was possible to go from 9,964 to 18,495, reported the head of the General Directorate of Health Quality and Education (DGCES) of the Ministry of Health, José Luis García Ceja .

During the closing of the highly specialized and medical specialty courses ofl National Institute of Respiratory Diseases (INER) “Ismael Cosío Villegas”affirmed that the transformation of the health system requires increasing the number of specialists to expand access to services and advance professionalization.

On behalf of the Secretary of Health, Jorge Alcocer Varela, the head of the DGCES stressed that the medical specialists who graduate must maintain humanism during the care process. The aim must be that their work reaches the most remote and vulnerable communities in the country, people who have historically never had medical services.

The general director of the INER, Jorge Salas Hernandezsaid that, since its creation in 1936, this institute has been a seedbed of specialists in respiratory diseases who are the mainstay of care to deal with the influenza and SARS-CoV-2 pandemics.

He highlighted the institute’s commitment to make available to the health system the select group of specialists who today graduate with the highest professional profile.

Diplomas and awards were received by 33 professionals who completed highly specialized postgraduate courses in Pathological Anatomy of the Respiratory System, Anesthesia in Thoracic Surgery, Bronchoscopy and Pediatric Bronchoscopy, Respiratory Intensive Care, Diffuse Interstitial Lung Diseases and others.

Also 49 who finished specialties in Allergy and Clinical Immunology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Infectious Diseases, Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, Pulmonology, Pediatric Pulmonology and Otorhinolaryngology, and Head and Neck Surgery.

Closing of courses at the General Hospital of Mexico

Separately, 249 graduates of specialty and high medical specialty who were prepared at the General Hospital of Mexico (HGM) “Eduardo Liceaga” They also received a diploma for having completed their training.

Presiding over the graduation ceremony of 135 Mexican and foreign women and 114 men, the general director of HGM, Guadalupe Mercedes Lucia Guerrero Avendanostressed that the participation of women in medicine is increasing and for the first time in the 118 years of existence of the hospital, the number of graduates from highly specialized courses exceeds that of men.

Guerrero Avendaño indicated that the values ​​forged during his training make it possible to ensure that they will provide dignified treatment, with quality and human warmth to their patients.

“Feel proud to have trained at HGM, where prominent specialists who founded some of the national health institutes have graduated. Starting today, you are part of this story.”

He informed that each year the hospital attends close to 300,000 patients, which translates into more than one and a half million services. The graduates were part of each of these actions and were rewarded with knowledge and healthcare experience.

The director of Health Education and Training at HGM, Ricardo Juan Garcia Cavazosurged new specialists to carry out their profession with humility, without losing sight of principles and values.

The academic secretary of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Rogelio Marco Antonio Chavolla Maganadescribed this generation as heroic, since, regardless of specialty, they were on the front line of care for patients with COVID-19.

The HGM teaches 83 specialty and highly specialized courses, such as Urology, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Medical Genetics, Cardiology, Traumatology and Otopedia, Maternal Fetal Medicine, Hematology and Anesthesiology.
