Salem: In Salem, the police handed over a man from Erode who was caught with Rs 62 lakh to the Income Tax authorities.

Salem, Pallapatti Police Officer Ettu Sugavanam and Armed Forces Police Officer Loganathan, yesterday morning, at 11:00 am, patrolled the Pudu Bus Stand area. At that time, they called a suspicious passer-by at the Trichy bus stop and questioned them.

They were shocked to find that it was Balakrishnan, 59, from Kumanankuttai, Erode, and that he had a large amount of money in his bag. He was immediately taken to the station.

Assistant Commissioner Saravanakumar inquired. He said that he used to invest the money in gold jewelery and sell it by changing hands and for that, he used to go to Trichy. In the bag, there were 62 lakhs, 12 thousand, 520 rupees. However, the police did not believe in his speech and action. Also there is no proof of business including receipt of money.

Subsequently, Salem District Income Tax Investigation Officers Rajaram and Muruganandam were summoned and at 3:30 in the afternoon, Balakrishnan was handed over along with the money.
