Corona now a common flu? ‘Incorrect and timing of that message during carnival wave is unfortunate’ | Nijmegen

So says Chantal Rovers, professor of outbreaks of infectious diseases at Radboud university medical center in Nijmegen. On Thursday, Jaap van Dissel of the Outbreak Management Team (OMT) declared the corona virus an everyday infection. That is why the test and insulation advice can be exchanged for general hygiene rules, is the advice to the cabinet.

“The timing is not ideal,” says Rovers. “Just after carnival and winter sports, a period that has led to a strong increase in the number of corona infections in recent years. The number has already increased in recent weeks. And it has been a long time since the most vulnerable have had a repeat shot.”
