What are you watching tonight: the series that made fun of the court years before Rothman

by time news

Let’s take a moment back to more innocent days, when leggings were a legitimate article of clothing and a light organ was considered a party: a small series is coming to the stuttering NBC network, a silly and light-hearted sitcom about the events of a night court in Manhattan, the place where all the creatures of New York in the eighties pour – and believe us, this It was a difficult time for New York. The series was not very successful at first, but after it took off (among other things because it was placed after other successful comedies such as “Free at the Bar”) viewers fell in love with the goofy Phil-Good spirit and the line of sweet characters, led by Harold Stone, the young judge and the joker (and the amateur magician). .

Nine years this little series ran, during which time it built up a loyal fan base that we’d say has been waiting for this moment for 31 years, but no one really believed it could happen. And here, nevertheless, the series is back in a new version, a reboot or a sequel – depending on who you ask. Judge Stone’s house comes to take the throne of honor on which her father sat (the actor Harry Anderson, who played the lovable judge, died five years ago), and she is also young, hungry, patient and optimistic just like her father.

Already from the first episode it is clear that the NBC network did not want to move too many parts, because why change what works? The format of small plots that take place over a night full of petty criminals and speed trials remains the same, and they even brought back the actor John LaRocket in the role that won him an Emmy – the conservative prosecutor and man-hater (but with a heart of gold) Dan Fielding. The twist? He returns to the other side, as a public defender. It feels a little foreign in the current television landscape, an old-fashioned sitcom at its core, but as long as the heart of the original remains, there’s at least a heart-warming binge here.
