Rome: Death toll rises to 60 after boat capsizes in Italy The ship, which was carrying 170 refugees from Turkey to Europe, capsized due to rough seas while passing Steccato di Cutro in the Calabria region of the Italian peninsula. After receiving the information, the rescuers rushed to the spot and recovered 27 dead bodies. In this situation, the rescuers conducted a search and rescue operation with boats and planes again yesterday. In this, the bodies of 30 more people, including many children and youths, were found.


Wooden pieces of a broken boat, pencil boxes, water bottles and some life jackets of the children who were traveling in it were floating all over the Steccato di Cutro beach in the Ionian Sea, leaving the onlookers heartbroken. So far 80 people have been rescued alive. The search for the rest has been intensified. A UN report said 15 percent of the 1.05 million refugees who arrived in Italy last year came through Turkey.
