Leonardo has closed an agreement for the acquisition of 25.1% of the German defense electronics company Hensoldt at a price of approximately 606 million, 23 euros per share. The agreement was signed with Square Lux Holding II, indirectly owned by Kkr, an international private equity operator. Hensoldt leader in Germany in the field of sensors for defense and security applications, with an expanding portfolio in cyber security, data management and robotics. Lhe German company closed 2020 with an order book of € 3.4 billion and revenues of € 1.2.The closing of the operation is expected in the second half of 2021 and once the acquisition is completed, Leonardo will become the major shareholder of Hensoldt together with Kreditanstalt fur Wiederaufbau, a German public bank with 80% of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The Minister of Economic Development, Giancarlo Giorgetti, expressed satisfaction with Leonardo’s acquisition of 25.1% of the German defense electronics company Hensoldt, an operation for which he had personally intervened with the German Minister of Economy Altmaier. The agreement will allow the birth of a European leader in the field of sensors for defense and security applications, in cyber security, data management and robotics. Our country – says Giorgetti – thus becomes the leader in a strategic sector of European cooperation in the defense industry.
