The Minister of Education, Dr. Yifat Shasha Bitton, agreed today (Monday) with the Commissioner for Wages at the Ministry of Finance, Kobi Bar-Natan, that teachers who have returned from abroad and entered solitary confinement will be able to receive wages for these days. These teachers will be able to complete school hours on their days off.

Completion of hours refers to teaching staff who returned from orange and red countries and entered solitary confinement on the following dates – Orange countries: Stay in solitary confinement on 07.12.2021 – 09.12.2021. Returning Red Countries: Stay in isolation on 07.12.2021 – 14.12.2021.

Completion of their hours will be done in coordination with the school principal or the authorized entity owned and with the consent of the teaching staff, until 04.03.2022. An employee who does not complete the hours for the isolation period, these hours will be considered as unpaid absence.

It should be emphasized that in accordance with the Economic Assistance Program (New Corona Virus) Law of 2020, an employee returning from a private trip from another country outside Israel is not entitled to isolation benefits or sickness benefits for the days he could not perform his work due to isolation. In the case of a teaching employee, he cannot teach remotely during the days of isolation. As stated, following the mentioned move, the procedure is different.

“However,” the Ministry of Education clarified, “a teaching worker who has returned from abroad for isolation will not be able to perform work from home and order remotely from home.” Depending on the country he returned from and subject to the guidelines of the Ministry of Health.
