Tlaxcala, Tlax., February 26, 2023 (Editorial).-The Ministry of Culture of the Government of Mexico, through the Center for Digital Culture (CCD) and La Colmena, Center for Creative Technologies, will carry out a tribute to remember the artist and cultural manager Grace Quintanilla, starting on February 27 and until March 31, 2023.
Within the framework of the birthday of the artist and founder of CCD and La Colmena -initiative that bears her name- it will be presented at the Palace of Culture of Tlaxcala, Mambo Queenone of his most representative works.
Mambo Queen is a piece in video clip format that boils like an audiovisual self-portrait that pays homage to and, at the same time, opposes gender standards while exploring femininity and gender. glamour through his own history, finding in dance an instrument of reflection.
In this sense, video art was used by Grace to address and question different social issues from a personal perspective; on the other hand, her work as a cultural manager was reflected in her incessant interest in identity, culture and, above all, in vindicating the digital arts as a Digital Culture.
For the artist, it was important to rethink the use of technologies and how they can be critically and creatively appropriated, generating communities that could move towards the development of new forms of expression of culture and art.
Thus, the Centro de Cultura Digital -located in Mexico City- and La Colmena -in Tlaxcala-, are spaces that make up that vision of Grace and that honor her legacy in the exploration of digital arts, the development of digital culture from technology and art, as well as continuing to generate communities capable of making critical and creative use of technologies, in line with the work axes of the federal Ministry of Culture.
The piece Mambo Queen will be displayed every day on the screen located in the lobby from the Palace of Culture of Tlaxcala, headquarters of the federal Ministry of Culture, from February 27 to March 31, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
