- Volodymyr Zelensky lamented an “increasingly complicated situation” in Bakhmout. Since the summer, troops from Moscow have been trying to take this city in the Donetsk region, of disputed strategic importance but which has become a symbol of the struggle for control of Donbass, in eastern Ukraine. The boss of the Russian paramilitary group Wagner, Yevgueni Prigojine, claimed responsibility on Saturday for the capture by his men of the village of Iahidne, located on the northern outskirts of Bakhmout.

- Russia intensifies its bombardments in the Luhansk region. According to the governor of this Ukrainian oblast of Donbass, the Russian army has strengthened its attacks and mobilized more soldiers to repel the Ukrainians around the towns of Svatove and Kreminna, besieged for several months.
- The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on Monday, introducing a session of the Human Rights Council during which the issue of war crimes allegedly committed by Moscow will be at the center of the debates. Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office has documented 71,586 war crimes and crimes of aggression committed by Russian forces in Ukraine since the start of the conflict a year ago.
- The Kremlin called Monday a“absurd” the new sanctions targeting 121 individuals and entities, imposed by the European Union on Russia a year after the start of the offensive in Ukraine.
- A 28-year-old American soldier, Andrew Peters, was killed on February 16 on the front lines, said his family in the Washington Post. Serving on the front line with the International Legion for the Territorial Defense of Ukraine, the young man was missing.
- Washington has warned Beijing that any Chinese military aid to Russia will have dire consequences. If China has not yet made a decision, it has not ruled out this option, said a White House official.
