Last year was not the best for Primoz Roglic, who left the Tour and the Vuelta on a stretcher. But still, the Slovenian is so good that he left his mark on both events, as he was vital to Vingegaard’s title in France and was the only one to put Evenepoel under pressure in Spain.
This campaign, Roglic wants to win a big one again and he chose the Giro. And there, things of fate, he will find the possibility of revenge against Remco, something that the Jumbo-Visma man is looking forward to. “The Giro is extremely demanding,” he told RTV Slo. “He has a lot of kilometers to go and I hope to be able to compete with the specialists and fight for the general classification”, he continued.
“It is difficult to know who will be the favourites, but Evenepoel will be among them. He has shown a lot these years and the route suits him. We will see who is the best in Rome”, continued Rogla, who will meet the QuickStep man in the Volta.
Curiously, the Catalan round will be more important than ever for Primoz. It is that it is the only competition that he will do before the Corsa Rosa, with which the test bench will be abosulot in terms of shape and physical health after shoulder surgery. In addition, he will be able to face Evenepoel and, as if that were not enough, he could be the first to add seven of the most important one-week competitions on the calendar. In his record, he only misses the Tour de Suiza and the Volta a Catalunya.
