Better.com CEO Vishael Garg announced today (Monday) that the mortgage company is laying off about 9% of its workforce at an online conference held last Wednesday in which it abruptly announced to more than 900 employees about the call they are quitting for a moment Before the holidays.
“If you’re in this conversation, you’re part of the unlucky group that gets fired,” he said Garg In a conversation, the recording of which was viewed by CNN Business. “Your employment here is terminated with effect immediately.” He then said employees can expect an email from HR detailing benefits and compensation.

Garg cited market efficiency, performance and productivity as the reason behind the layoffs. Fortune later reported that Greg accused employees of “stealing” from their colleagues and customers that they were unproductive and worked only two hours a day. “This is the second time in my career that I do it and I do not want to do it. The last time I did it I cried,” Garg said in the conversation, which remained short and emotionless.
Garg has been involved in controversy in the past, as evidenced by an email he sent to a team obtained by Forbes. “You’re too slow. You’re a bunch of dumb dolphins … so stop it. Stop it. Stop it right away. You embarrass me,” he wrote.
