Panaji: India’s Manika Patra advanced to the second round of the Table Tennis Star Contender Series.

The ‘Star Contender’ series is being held on behalf of World Table Tennis in Goa, India. More than 200 participants from 30 countries are participating, including five in the ‘top-20’ of the world rankings.

India’s Manika Patra met England’s Tin Tin Ho in the first round of its women’s singles. Manika won 3-0 (11-4, 11-8, 11-5). India’s Sudhirtha defeated South Korea’s Lee 3-1 (11-9, 6-11, 11-6, 11-8). In another match, Ayika of India fell to Saibel of Turkey 1-3 (11-6, 6-11, 8-11, 7-11). Srija Akula lost 1-3 to Hana in Egypt.

Satyan victory

India’s Satyan and Harmeet Desai clashed in the men’s singles first round. Sathyan won the first set 11-4 and lost the next set 10-12. Satyan then won the third set 13-11 and won the next set 11-9. In the end, Satyan won 3-1 and advanced to the second round.

India’s Manav Vikash lost 0-3 (7-11, 6-11, 9-11) to South Korea’s Taeseong.

In the men’s doubles first round, India’s pair of Harmeet and Manav Vikash beat fellow pair Ronith and Jeeth 3-2. In women’s doubles, Manika-Archana and Aayika-Sudirtha entered the quarterfinals.
