The extra payments, as established in the Workers’ Statute, must reach a minimum amount that cannot be less than the equivalent of 30 days of the base salary or the Minimum Interprofessional Salary (SMI). For this reason, with the recent increase of 8% of the SMI to 1,080 euros, the two extra payments that are going to be collected this year for full-time or part-time workers who receive the minimum wage also increase.

By receiving the two installments in June and December along with their salary, they will join a total of 2,160 euros both months. This increase will be implemented retroactively from January 1, 2023, so these workers will find the corresponding to the January payroll in their account this month.

Through the SMI, the Government guarantees a minimum income for workers in Spain, which is updated each year with an increase previously consulted with trade union and business organizations. The Government finally opted for the high range of increases recommended by the committee of experts, which last December sent the ministry a report in which it estimated that the minimum wage should be between 1,046 and 1,082 euros per month to reach 60 % of the average salary, which is the legislature commitment that the Executive chaired by Pedro Sánchez had acquired in order to comply with what the European Social Charter mandates.

The 8% rise only affects these types of salaries, the lowest for professionals in the country, so the increase will not be reflected in the payrolls of those who earn more.
