In Senegal, the fight against corruption is stalled according to the index published at the end of January by the NGO Transparency International. With a score of 43 out of 100, the country is in the world average and above the sub-Saharan average. But for the Senegalese, there is little to celebrate.
In December, the Court of Auditors noted overbilling and embezzlement of the public fund dedicated to the fight against Covid-19 for a loss of 7 billion CFA francs, or around 10 million euros. A few weeks earlier, the OCCRP, a network of investigative journalists, had exposed a suspicious arms deal between the Ministry of the Environment and a Nigerian trafficker. In January, two serious road accidents left 60 dead and brought corruption among traffic officers back to the fore.
