The successive crises experienced by the various French sports federations have left their mark. Amélie Oudéa-Castéra reacts accordingly: the Minister of Sports announced, Thursday, March 2, the forthcoming establishment of a national committee aimed at strengthening ethics in sport.
In a forum in Le Monde, the minister explains that she wants to ensure that “everyone finds a secure, ethical framework, adapted to their expectations and their needs to practice the sports of their choice”. For this, the committee will be made up of “indisputable qualified personalities, coming from all walks of life”.
“A more ethical governance”
The role of this new body will be primarily advisory. The task of the committee will be to send proposals to the minister by next fall. The latter calls for “a more ethical, more democratic and more protective governance of sport for practitioners”.
All these measures are closely linked to a major deadline: the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. “It is our duty to promote irreproachable governance in terms of ethics and social responsibility”, explains Amélie Oudéa-Castéra. She adds that the committee’s proposals will feed into changes to the legislative, regulatory and statutory framework after the Games.
This announcement comes two days after the resignation of Noël Le Graët from the head of the French Football Federation. In January, the president of the Rugby Federation, Bernard Laporte, also resigned.
The Minister also ensures that she works to guarantee the safety of all within sports bodies. “In the fight against sexual and gender-based violence, action plans are being strengthened in the federations under the greatest vigilance of my ministry. »
