Ravichandran Ashwin’s wicket-taking; Kapil Dev’s record was broken today

Indoor: Ravichandran Ashwin takes wickets on Day 2 of third Test in Border-Gavaskar Trophy The Indian spinner took three wickets of the Aussie players today. At the end of the second innings, Australia scored 197 runs. Ashwin dismissed Peter Handscomb, Alex Carey and Nathan Lyon. With this, R Ashwin has acquired another historic achievement.

Ashwin became the third highest wicket-taker for India in international cricket. Ashwin has surpassed former Indian captain and legend Kapil Dev to achieve this feat. Harbhajan Singh and Anil Kumble are now ahead of Ashwin. Ashwin has taken 689 wickets with today’s performance. Currently Harbhajan Singh is leading with 707 wickets and Anil Kumble with 953 wickets. It took Ashwin just 269 games to surpass Kapil Dev’s wicket haul of 356 matches.

With this, Ashwin came close to breaking South African pace legend Dale Steyn’s record of 699 wickets. Steyn is the 17th highest international wicket-taker. Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan is the leader with 1347 wickets. Shane Warne is second with 1001 wickets and England veteran pacer Jimmy Anderson is third with 972 wickets. Kumble is fourth with 956 wickets. Glenn McGrath is next with 949 wickets.
