“Rīgas siltums” will purchase three times cheaper natural gas for the next heating season

JSC “Rīgas siltums” will purchase three times or 67% cheaper natural gas for the next heating season as a result of an open tender, the company informed.

Three bidders submitted bids, and JSC Latvenergo’s bid was recognized as the economically most advantageous bid with the lowest price.

The planned volume will be 460,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of natural gas for the 2023/2024 heating season.

Natural gas injection and storage in the Inčukalnas underground gas storage is planned until September 30, 2023.

AS “AJ Power Gas” offer was 62.80 euros/MWh, “Latvenergo” – 55.67 euros/MWh and SIA “Elenger” – 57.75 euros/MWh.

The company’s board member Raivis Elliņš states that the received offers are encouraging, which also means encouraging thermal energy tariff forecasts for the next heating season.

The most important condition that is strictly observed by the Riga heat supply company – the country of origin of the natural gas must not be Russia.

The company’s long-term priority is to continue on the green course by moving away from fossil energy resources, which is an environmentally friendly and sustainable decision.

Currently, the share of renewable energy resources is already 52%. On the other hand, by 2026 “Rīgas siltums” plans to produce 90% of heat energy using only renewable energy resources.

The data of “Firmas.lv” show that the turnover of “Rīga heat” in 2021 was 146.45 million euros, and the profit was 5.4 million euros. 49% of the company’s capital belongs to the Riga City Council, 48.99% to the State of Latvia, 2% to SIA “Energiţias otźliţi. RIX”, while “Latvenergo” owns 0.005% of the shares.
