Williams: The conditions for running for the presidential elections is the main obstacle to the political process

by time news

The former UN advisor in Libya, Stephanie Williams, said that the situation in the country is very complex, pointing out that the main obstacle to the elections is the “eligibility condition” for the candidates.

In a statement, Williams explained that one of the main sticking points is “who will come to power,” noting that in light of the previous elections, “controversial candidates” eventually brought the political process to a halt.

Williams added that there is a democratic dilemma, as previous constitutional negotiations showed that the Libyans want a strong presidential system that could lead to stability and unity between the warring factions, pointing out that Libya is being subjected to a major misinformation campaign, and this is what happened at the dialogue forum that was held in Tunis and Geneva.
