Brussels,

A woman named Genevieve Lermidt (age 58) from Belgium killed her 5 children on February 28, 2007. He killed a son and 4 daughters between the ages of 3 and 14 by slitting their throats with a knife and attempted suicide by stabbing himself.

But as the attempt failed, he called the emergency number and later surrendered to the police. Genevieve Lhermitt was sentenced to life in prison in 2008 for killing 5 children. He was jailed and transferred to a psychiatric hospital in 2019.

Meanwhile, Genevieve Lermidt requested that she be euthanized. In Belgium, the law allows a person to choose the decision of euthanasia if they are considered to be suffering psychologically intolerable. Genevieve Lermidt was accordingly euthanized.

His lawyer, Nicholas Cohen, confirmed that he had been euthanized. Speaking about this, he said, “Genevieve Lermidt was euthanized according to her wishes on the 16th anniversary of her murders. She underwent medical tests and various opinions were collected. After that, she was euthanized.”

In the year 2022, 2,966 people were euthanized in Belgium. This figure is said to be 10% higher than in 2021. Officials in the country say most people request euthanasia due to cancer, health and psychological problems.
