The brutal drug lord Pablo Escobar illegally imported hippopotamuses from Africa to Colombia in the 1980s, and now the country is considering sending their offspring to India and Mexico in order to try and control their culture, after it was announced that it was an invasive species and the possible damage to the ecosystem. A local farmer was even seriously injured after one of those hippos attacked him in 2020. Two more hippos may be sent to Ecuador.
