Gobi: There was a commotion near Gobi as people protested against the provision of power connection to the paper mill.
A private paper mill is functioning at Antarpanthalbutur near Koogalur, Gobi. Residents of the area complained to the Pollution Control Board that its sewage was stored behind the plant and opened in agricultural lands at night, contaminating irrigation wells and farmlands.
The department investigated and disconnected the power supply to the plant. Due to this the plant was also shut down a few months ago.
In this case, the area got information yesterday that the plant management is going to get electricity connection again through the court order. Meanwhile, the electricity board also came yesterday to implement the court order and provide electricity connection.
On learning this, more than a hundred people gathered in front of the plant at 9:00 am, protesting the provision of electricity connection. They chanted slogans to ban the plant. As a result, more than 50 policemen were mobilized.
Gobi Tahsildar Asia, Gobi Power Distribution Circle Executive Engineer Shankar held talks. Headed by the Gobi RTO, the officials promised to find a solution through peace talks. Then the people dispersed. Due to this, traffic was affected for three hours on the Waterbandalputur-Kobi road.
