An MP from the opposition CDU party, Alexander Throm, told Bild am Sonntag that the country is in its biggest immigration crisis since 2016 and the government is not taking the issue of expulsions seriously. The figures have been requested by the CDU. In total, according to those figures, there are 304,308 foreigners in Germany who should leave the country, but the order to leave has been temporarily suspended for 248,145 of them.

The Federal Republic has had a large immigrant population since the 1950s. The country currently has more than 84.5 million inhabitants. More than a fifth of the inhabitants are immigrants from abroad (over 17 percent) or are children born in Germany of parents who have both emigrated to Germany (5.7 percent).
