Imran Khan in hiding? Party workers struggle to prevent arrest

by time news

Former Pakistan cricket team captain and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party leader Imran Khan, who served as Pakistan’s prime minister, resigned following a no-confidence motion in parliament.

During the tenure of the Tehreek-e-Insab party, the investigation conducted by the Federal Agency regarding the illegal receipt of funds from various countries revealed that more than 10 bank accounts were opened and foreign funds were received.

He was disqualified by the Election Commission in this case. Following this, Imran’s supporters resorted to violence in front of the Election Commission office. In this related case, Imran Khan has been charged and may be arrested anytime.

In this situation, Imran Khan has been accused of illegally selling the gifts he received during his tenure as Prime Minister from the state depository known as ‘Doshakhana’. Pakistani media reported that he earned 36 million rupees by selling three expensive watches gifted to him by guests from Gulf countries.

Responding to this, Imran Khan told the Election Commission of Pakistan that he had earned 58 million rupees by selling gifts bought from the state treasury by paying 21.56 million rupees. And he said, The gifts are mine, so what I do with them is my choice.

A few days ago, the court issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against him as he failed to appear in court in connection with the case. Islamabad police arrested Imran Khan with an arrest warrant today and arrived at his Zaman Park residence in Lahore. But Imran Khan was not at home when they arrived. So he could not be arrested.

Thousands of his party workers gathered outside his residence to protest his arrest. As a result, there was a great excitement there. His party has termed the police action against Imran Khan a ‘travesty of justice’. It also accused the current government of creating a law and order situation to delay the elections.

“Any attempt to arrest Imran Khan will worsen the situation. I want to warn this incompetent and anti-Pakistan government not to push Pakistan into further crisis,” party vice-president Chaudhry said.
