by time news

Sivagangai: Naganathan, District Organizer of the Farmers Union, said that the government is not interested in setting up paddy protection godowns in the district.

He said that the government is making a separate budget for farmers. In this, the government has not given importance to the income generating sector of the government and has not shown any interest in setting up paddy protection godowns.

At present they are building a Paddy Conservation Godown for the taluk. The cost of transporting paddy to these godowns increases, such as transport charges and vehicle rental.

Kallakudy is the godown for Devakottai taluk.

One has to travel 4 km to transport paddy from Mubaiyur, Uruadi, Thiruvembuttur, Kurundanakottai area to this area. The paddy is being destroyed without any way to preserve it.

At present, without the Agricultural Marketing Board, the farmers are unable to sell the paddy produced at a reasonable price, and are selling it to private individuals at rock-bottom prices.

If a paddy godown is set up and protected for Birka, it will help the farmers to protect the paddy grown, he said.
