by time news
Coimbatore: There is a shortage of power meters in power distribution areas under Coimbatore. Due to this, people are suffering a lot because of not being able to get a new electricity connection.

People living under the power division office under various circle offices under Coimbatore, Coimbatore North, South, Metropolitan, apply for low voltage electricity connection to their homes on the website.

They also pay fees online. But due to insufficient number of low voltage meters for single phase power connection in the power division offices, there has been a delay in the provision of power connection.

As the applicants are constantly walking to the Electricity Board office, they are fixing the faulty electricity meters and installing them as a temporary arrangement.

Social welfare organizations and consumer organizations in Coimbatore have been writing to the Director and Chief Engineer (Materials Management Division) of the Electricity Board asking for the immediate purchase and distribution of electricity meters. So far, no solution has been found.

’15 thousand meters

Coming soon’ Vinodhan, Chief Engineer of Coimbatore Power Board said: According to the usage, two types of electricity meters are provided to the electricity connection holders, single phase and three phase.
Among all electrical connections, single phase connections are the most common. Number of three phase connections is less. Therefore, the electricity meters required for that are kept in excess.
But for single phase power connection, ammeters are in high demand, so the stock is decreasing. Orders are being placed accordingly. Soon 15,000 electricity meters will arrive.
Thus, Vinodhan said.
