In less than a week of vaccination with Pfizer’s bivalent vaccine, Brazil already exceeds 1 million doses applied. The data are from the DataSUS vaccinometer.

More precisely, 1,187,592 Brazilians were vaccinated with the booster dose, which protects against the original strain of Sars-CoV-2 and variants, including Omicron. São Paulo is the state that most applied the bivalent immunizer and sum 262,371 vaccinated São Paulo.

Then comes Rio de Janeiro, with 131,223 doses applied. Bahia has 76,103 individuals vaccinated — ranking third in the state with the highest number of boosters given —, followed by Rio Grande do Sul (58,889 doses).

Roraima (5,051), Amapá (6,075) and Acre (6,770) are the places with the lowest number of applied bivalent doses.

“We still have cases of Covid, and vulnerable populations still have a greater risk even if vaccinated and, over time, this protection is being lost. Today we strongly recommend that vaccination be carried out”, said the vice president of SBIM (Brazilian Society of Immunizations), Renato Kfouri, in an interview with R7.

It is worth noting that the bivalent reinforcement is intended for groups at risk of Covid-19. Are they:

• pregnant and postpartum women;

• immunocompromised patients;

• disabled people;

• individuals living in long-term care facilities;

• indigenous, riverine and quilombola peoples;

• health workers.

“There is no indication for a [quarta] booster dose, monovalent or bivalent, for the general population, only immunosuppressed”, guided the secretary of Surveillance in Health and Environment of the Ministry of Health, Ethel Maciel, through Instagram.

In a statement, the folder informs that “more than 19 million doses of bivalent vaccines against Covid-19 were distributed to all states and the Federal District to start the first stage of the National Movement for Vaccination. with bivalent vaccines provides greater security for specific groups of greater vulnerability, with risks for disease complications and death”.
