“60-year-old tanks”: British intelligence predicts many losses for the Russians

by time news

The British intelligence report published today (Monday) presents a bleak picture of the situation regarding the combat equipment of the Russian army. According to the document: “Russia continues to respond to the loss of anti-tank missiles by deploying 60-year-old main battle tanks.” The report also states that “there is a real possibility that even Russia’s leading tank force will be re-equipped with T-62 tanks to compensate for the previous losses. The force was previously supposed to receive a new model of tanks from 2021.”

According to the report, Russia uses weapons created in the 50s of the last century: “In recent days, Russian BTR-50 armored personnel carriers, which were first used in 1954, have also been identified for the first time.”

Since the previous summer, Russia has begun using an additional 800 T-62 tanks, which entered service in the early 1960s. Some of the tanks received upgraded vision systems that will probably improve their effectiveness at night. However, the British emphasize that: “The obsolete tanks will cause many losses on the modern battlefield.”
