MADRID, 5 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The governments of Tunisia and Syria have shown this Saturday their willingness to renew diplomatic relations after the foreign ministers of both countries have spoken by telephone to address the consequences of the earthquakes that occurred in northeast Syria.

The Tunisian Foreign Minister, Nabil Ammar, and the Syrian Foreign Minister, Faisal Maqdad, have expressed the desire of their respective countries to renew bilateral relations and return to “their normal course”, as detailed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tunisia in a statement.

To this end, the heads of Tunisian and Syrian diplomacy have pointed out the importance of increasing the level of diplomatic representation and the exchange of visits by officials from both countries.

In 2012, Tunisia withdrew its recognition of the government of Syrian President Bashar al Assad and expelled the Syrian ambassador from the country, all in protest of unrest during the Arab Spring.
