To reduce air pollution and become the world’s leading producer of electric vehicles, India should target 100 percent sales of electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers in the next five years, said Amitabh Kant, CEO, Niti Aayog.

The Council on Energy, Environment and Water organized a panel discussion on Emerging Trends in Electric Vehicle Transport in New Delhi. Amitabh Kant, who participated in the event, released a report titled ‘Green India’s Motor Transport Sector’ prepared by ‘Centre for Energy Finance’. The report said the number of electric vehicles sold in the first six months of the 2022-23 financial year was more than the previous full year.

The share of electric vehicles in total vehicle sales is 6% by Sep 2022. And the Center for Energy Finance has developed a free online tool. Electric Mobility Dashboard, the platform, will update bi-monthly the electric vehicle sales at the national, state and RTO levels.

In this case, Amitabh Kant spoke about the electric vehicle industry and said: The sale of electric vehicles will not only control air pollution, it will also confirm India’s leadership in the production of electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers. Public transport is the backbone of a civilized society. So attention should be paid to electric buses as well.
