A fight between organized supporters of Vasco and Flamengo left at least eight people injured on Sunday afternoon (5), around the Maracanã stadium, in the north of Rio. One of the fans died.

According to the Municipal Secretary of Health, one of the injured did not resist and died this morning. Two patients are hospitalized in a serious condition and a third in a stable condition. Three people were discharged and another left the unit of their own accord.

In images circulating on social networks, groups of fans appear occupying the streets towards the stadium, threatening rival fans. Vascaínos traveled in crowded buses and occupied up to the ceiling.

At the accesses to the São Cristóvão subway station, flamenguistas got off in groups and caused an uproar. According to Metrô Rio, the station was closed for ten minutes because of the confusion.

The confrontation between the two fans started near Quinta da Boa Vista. Men with pieces of wood, stones and mortars clashed, and the Military Police reacted with tear gas and rubber bullets.

In a video, a man wearing a Vasco shirt appears passed out in the middle of the street, near the Mangueira community. In another, a Flamengo supporter is lying on the ground after being attacked by seven people.

The injured were taken to the Souza Aguiar Municipal Hospital, in the center, two of them in serious condition.

After the game, another riot started around the stadium, and policing was reinforced.

In a statement, the Military Police informed that it had seized around 50 pieces of wood, nine iron bars, five homemade bombs, fireworks, brass knuckles and an explosive device at several points.

The case was registered at the 17th DP (São Cristóvão) and the 18th DP (Praça da Bandeira).
