NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope Captures the “Jellyfish Galaxy”

LOS ANGELES, March 6 (Xinhua) — NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope has captured trailing tentacles of stars that make up the “Jellyfish Galaxy,” according to an image released by the agency recently.

As the Jellyfish Galaxy moves through intergalactic space, gas is slowly stripped from tendrils-like trails that are illuminated by clumps of star formation.

The Jellyfish Galaxy, known as JO 201, is located in the constellation Cetus, which is named after a sea monster in ancient Greek mythology, according to NASA.

Astronomers hope the observation will provide a better understanding of the relationship between ram pressure stripping, the process that creates the tendrils of jellyfish galaxies, and star formation, according to NASA.
