What is now on display in Bonn’s Bundeskunsthalle under the biblical title “Adam, Eve and the Snake” has been on view in Berlin’s Sophien-Gips-Höfe since 1997. One experienced an “inhabited” collection of contemporary art. The Rhenish collector couple Erika and Rolf Hoffmann – he was the heir to the Van Laack textile company – discovered all the works at Documenta exhibitions. The Hoffmanns bought at trade fairs, in art associations and galleries since the 1960s. It is primarily politically and socially relevant works that reflect the upheavals of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st century.
