Broly is a character that, for many years, remained out of the canon, after appearing for the first time in his own movie, released on March 6, 1993. We had to wait many years to see him in action again, and this time in Dragon Ball Super, where did you get your ‘status‘ cannon.

Although, of course, there are big differences between the Broly original and the Broly canonmainly because one of them ended up as a villain in his own movies, while the other is a kind of ally of Son Goku, although he has not yet been fully exploited (speaking specifically of the manga).

This time we have to talk about the first movie where we had the so-called ‘Legendario Super Saiyajin‘. In those times, things were very different, because they tried to play a lot with the myth of the super Saiyans, and that Goku had not been the first to exploit all his power. It turns out that, at the time when the Saiyans served Frieza, a baby was a danger to King Vegeta’s government, because they couldn’t control his ‘hidden potential’.

Relegated alongside his father Paragus. Both were other survivors of the destruction of Planet Vegeta, when they ended up exiled and it was thanks to the power of Broly, that his progenitor managed to survive. It was precisely Paragus who became a ‘conqueror’ releasing his son as his greatest weapon, subduing and destroying worlds, until they discovered that there were other Saiyans alive.

The movie has a lot of merit not only because it deals with the appearance of the ‘legendary Super Saiyan’, but the whole plot around how Goku and the others end up traveling to another planet (tricked by Paragus) to be destroyed by Broly’s power. . However, no one counted on the villain losing control looking at Kakarottowhom he had a hatred for since they were babies.

Toei he was in charge of producing the film and he did it masterfully, showing us different stages of Broly. Initially going through a relaxed appearance, until little by little showing us that ‘monster’ that was capable of destroying everything in its path. The animation, although its years have passed, is still very well preserved, since it shows that it was one of the Dragon Ball Z movies that they wanted to put more affection on. To no one’s surprise, Broly would end up becoming one of people’s favorite characters worldwide, especially North Americans.

Dragon Ball Z: Mario Castañeda was not Goku in this movie

Dragon Ball Z It was a success in Latin America thanks to its extraordinary and nostalgic dubbing where we had actors who today are highly respected internationally such as mario castaneda, Rene Garcia y Laura Torres (Goku, Gohan and Vegeta respectively).

For this reason, it was not uncommon to find that the films were dubbed, keeping in most cases the most beloved voices. Although in the case of Broly’s tape, things did not go as expected.

«The Invincible Power» (as it was known in several countries) has the particularity that it did not have Mario Castañeda playing Goku, being replaced by the late actor Enrique Mederos. It turns out that, when the film was going to be dubbed, the actors did not reach a monetary agreement with the dubbing company, because they wanted it below the salary that an actor expects when participating in a film, despite the fact that they had allegedly ‘ fixed ‘said issue with the movie’The biggest battle in the world is about to begin‘ when it hit theaters.

This caused various characters such as Piccolo y Goku lose their classical voices (Carlos Segundo y mario castaneda). And the same happened with those who played Gohan, Krillin and Trunks (in the series they were dubbed by Laura Torres, Eduardo Garza, Sergio Bonilla), while in the movie they were Araceli de Leon (R.I.P), Luis Daniel Ramirez y Oscar Flores.
