Alok is the champion celebrity in donations

The tragedy on the coast of São Paulo leads the fate of donations made in Brazil. Only via the platform of the Brazilian Association of Fundraisers (ABCR) more than R$ 10 million went into emergency aid. The largest amount came from the NGO Gerando Falcões at R$5 million followed by the Federation of Banks, Ferbraban at R$2.4 million.

In these first days of 2023, in general, more than R$ 19 million were allocated by 32 people or entities until February 24th.

Alok the biggest donor among celebrities

Among public figures, DJ Alok leads the ranking with BRL 3.44 million. Next, model Gisele Bundchen – R$ 1.1 million, singer Wesley Safadão – R$ 760 thousand, singer Anitta – R$ 500 thousand, actor Alexandre Frota – R$ 200 thousand and presenter Luciano Huck – with BRL 77,124. The singer Jojo Todynho closes the list of celebrities with R$ 10 thousand.

Among the influencers, Virginia Fonseca made donations worth R$310,000, and GKay, with R$100,000, and Casimiro, with R$50,000.

Brazil: 18th position among the most supportive countries

Closing last year’s balance sheet, Monitor das Donations accounted for 1.41 billion coming from 396 accounts, of which 219 came from individuals, 132 from companies, 44 from non-profit organizations and three from public companies. According to the survey, 34% came from individuals. With this balance, Brazil closed 2022 in the 18th position among the most supportive countries in the world, according to the World Giving Index. This is a huge leap in solidarity, as in 2021 we were ranked 54th.

The survey also revealed that Indonesia was considered the most generous nation in the world for the fifth consecutive year, followed by Kenya.

In the last year, donations from individuals had an average value of R$ 450 thousand and were destined mainly for the areas of education, social assistance, health and maintenance of philanthropic entities, such as: Cruz Vermelha, Gerando Falcões, Transforma Brasil and Santa House of Mercy.

“We hope to see more donors and greater values. We know that there are many philanthropists who donate and do not always publicize their act of generosity. We hope that talking about donation and involvement with social causes is increasingly common in people’s daily lives, contributing to an increasingly strong Culture of Donation in Brazil”, comments Fernando Nogueira, executive director of ABCR.

In the list of main legal donors, public companies stand out, BNDES, with BRL 412 million, Petrobras, with BRL 280 million and Cedae – state water and sewage company in Rio de Janeiro – with BRL 70 million. Among the private ones: Cargill – R$ 56 million, Gerdau – R$ 40 million, Cacau Show – R$ 20 million and the Heineken Group – with R$ 15 million.

The Donation Monitor is an ABCR initiative with the support of GIFE – Group of Institutes, Foundations and Companies. Accounts for publicly announced donations equal to and/or greater than R$3,000. For more information about the Donation Monitor, visit www.monitordasdoacoes.org.br
