Ducati beats Energica in its first official MotoE test

by time news

The MotoE season has not started and Ducati is already smashing Energica’s previous records. Today, in Jerez, Eric Granado has established a new absolute reference for the electric category of the world championship, stopping the clock in 1:47.053and it has also done so in the first dry session that the 18 MotoE riders have been able to enjoy since Monday.

The opening day of the test served to draw few conclusions; constant rain prevented the Andalusian track from drying out throughout Monday, so the riders registered in this test -the entire MotoE grid- had to wait until Tuesday to be able to put the slicks on the electric Ducati V21L for the first timeand the result has been a complete success.

With its 1:47.053, Granado has taken four tenths off the absolute record in Jerez that the LCR E-Team rider himself had kept since 2021 (1’47.473), thus confirming the superiority of the new Borgo Panigale MotoE compared to the Energica EGO Corsa, the bike that has monopolized the MotoE grid since 2019 and that derives from electric street sports, also called Energica EGO.

Granado has not been the only driver who has lapped below the Andalusian track record; Matthew Ferrarifrom Gresini MotoE, also had lower times than the best Energica, setting a 1:47.310 on his third lap of the afternoon.

And it’s not just the V21L that’s faster than its predecessor; its maximum speed in Jerez was 228 km/h measured on the back straight of the circuit (185 km/h on the main finish line), and that means matching the 228.3 km/h that the Japanese Hikari Okubo set in the 2022 MotoE race on this same stage.

Taking into account that this is the second day of the official test of the MotoE grid with the new Ducati V21L of 150 hp and 225 kilos of weight, teams and riders still have a wide margin ahead to improve their set-up and continue narrowing the gap that still separates the MotoE from the Moto3, 250 cc machines and four-stroke combustion engines that have an approximate power of 60 hp for 90 kilos of weight.

To put into perspective the time signed today by Eric Granado (1:47.053), You only need to see the 1:45.880 with which Izan Guevara got the Moto3 pole in the last World Cup event held on the Jerez track.

The best Spaniard on Tuesday in Jerez has been Jordi Torres; the two-time MotoE champion was classified in seventh position on his Openbank Aspar Team Ducati (+0.498), while Hector Garzo He did it in 9th place (+0.642), Michael Pons finished 10th (+0.757), Tito Rabat 11th (+0.990) on the Ducati of the PRAMAC team, Mika Perez 16th (+2,684) and Maria Herrera in 18th position, 2.9 seconds behind the best of the day.
