It is a court decision that seemed unimaginable several decades ago. A Spanish court has sentenced a man to pay more than 200,000 euros to his ex-wife, corresponding to more than 20 years’ salary for having taken care of the household during their marriage, according to a decision consulted on Tuesday by AFP.

This woman, mother of two children and married under the regime of separation of property, took care, from her marriage “of the house, of the family, with all that that implies”, indicates the court decision of the Court of Vélez-Málaga (south), dated February 15. She even performed “exclusively” all the household chores and took care of their two daughters alone, notes La Republica.

This woman will therefore receive “compensation of 204,624.86 euros”, decided the court. According to this woman’s lawyer, this sum represents “the minimum wage” for the period running from June 1995 to December 2020, that is to say 24 and a half years. The man will also have to pay monthly alimony to his ex-wife for his daughters.

He didn’t want her working outside

According to the court, the woman “was deprived of any possibility of professional development because of this exclusive devotion to home and family”, her ex-husband, “throughout the years of marriage, accumulated and increased his life exponentially deprived financially”, without this resulting in an increase in his.

In an interview on Tuesday with radio Cadena Ser, this woman said that her husband “did not want her to work outside”, although she did help him in the gyms, which he owned, by taking care of “public relations, being a monitor” but without being paid.

For the rest, “I devoted myself exclusively to household chores, to take care of my husband, to take care of the house”, she continued, saying she was “very happy” with the decision, “well deserved ” according to her.
