Chelsea in the quarter-finals of the Champions League

by time news

Chelsea are disappointing in the middle of the Premier League table having not scored two goals in a game throughout 2023, Dortmund on the other hand have won all 11 of their games since returning from the World Cup break, but the Champions League is where it all goes the other way around, and so it was tonight (Tuesday). After arriving with a 1:0 deficit from the first game, the Blues managed to beat the Germans 0:2 and advance to the quarterfinals, and rightfully so.

While the noose has already tightened around Graham Potter’s neck, the Chelsea manager has very likely saved his job, at least for now. The team that spent around €330 million in the January transfer window alone looked simply great, beating Dortmund from the opening and deservedly promoted. The Germans, who as mentioned was their first loss and including the first game in which they did not win since returning from the World Cup break, will concentrate on trying to take the championship title from Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.

This game was completely controlled by Chelsea almost from start to finish. The Blues looked full of purpose and attacked the visitor with fury right from the start. After a presser and a number of big misses, Raheem Sterling finally broke the dam in the minute, perfect timing for the host. In the second half, Chelsea didn’t take their foot off the gas and 5 minutes into it, Kai Habertz gave them the second which completed a turnaround after receiving a repeat penalty after missing.
