In the Service Department of the Justin Marcinkevičius Public Library in Prien, a literary afternoon-quiz “Language is ours” was held, dedicated to Lithuanian Language Days.
During the afternoon, the library visitors talked about the importance of the mother tongue, its beauty, and remembered the words of Jonas Jablonskis: “It is a small honor to speak a foreign language, it is a great shame not to speak your own well.” The participants were afraid that the Lithuanian language is disappearing, they speak “English”. According to one of the nurturers of the Lithuanian language, many English words and expressions are heard even on television. If earlier it was said that our language is “Russian”, now it is “English”. However, despite the apprehensions, the participants agreed that Lithuanians have a really beautiful, sonorous and even very complex language, which must be preserved and loved, because it is an indicator not only of the entire nation, but also of every person’s culture.
After sharing their opinions, the participants hurried to solve crosswords. He remembered the name of the first written book, what bibliosmia is, long-read works and the authors who wrote them. There were also more difficult questions, but even they made the participants smile. The librarians joked that real “golden minds” had gathered. The participants thanked each other for teamwork and fellowship.
