The Council of Cardinals was formed on 28 September 2013 to assist the Pope in the administration of the Universal Church.

Pope Francis has renewed the Pontifical Council of Cardinals, known as ‘C9’, with Bishop Marco Mellino as secretary, as the mandate of the previous Council of Cardinals expired.

It has been announced that the meeting of the previous Council of Cardinals for the Pope was held in December last year, and the meeting of the new ‘C9’ Council of Cardinals will be held on the morning of April 24 at the Pope’s residence, Santa Marta.

The Council of Cardinals was created by Pope Francis on September 28, 2013 to assist the Pope in the administration of the Universal Church. Its first meeting was held from 1st to 3rd October 2013.

This Council of Cardinals, which was established to bring about changes in the Roman General Secretariat, has been informed that its planning activities were carried out in the way of the new Apostolic Constitution Praedicate Evangelium, which was published on March 19, 2022.

Cardinals Pietro Parolin, Fernando Vérgez Alzaga, Fridolin Ambongo, Oswald Gracias, Seán Patrick O’Malley, Juan José Omella, Gérald Lacroix, Jean-Claude Hollerich, Sérgio da Rocha are members of the new Council of Cardinals.
