Union of Islamic Cooperation News Agencies Organizes Workshop on Media Dissemination of Palestinian Cause Terminology
Jeddah (UNA) – The Union of OIC News Agencies (UNA) is organizing on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, a virtual workshop titled “ Media Diffusion of the Terminology of the Palestinian Cause”.
The workshop is organized with the participation of representatives of international organizations and news agencies to discuss the terminology used in the international media during its coverage of events in Palestine, and assess them against the requirements of international legitimacy. and the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.
His Excellency the Acting Director General of the Union of OIC News Agencies, Mr. Mohammad bin Abd Rabbo Al-Yami, explained that “the organization of this workshop is an extension of the decisions of the General Assembly of the union and the Islamic Conference of Information Ministers who called for taking the necessary measures to combat media disinformation and the promotion of disinformation about the Palestinian people, the illegal Israeli occupation and aggression Israel on the lands of the State of Palestine.
Al-Yami pointed out that to properly fulfill the provisions of these decisions, it is necessary to correct the terminology circulating in the media when it comes to covering events and developments in Palestine.
He underlined that language is an important element in training the public in the awareness of a particular problem, and the terminology used by the employer to describe a phenomenon contributes in an essential way to place the latter in a specific context. , positively or negatively.
Al-Yami revealed that the workshop was part of the development of an outline for a comprehensive media guide on terminology related to the Palestinian cause, calling on media personnel from Islamic countries to participate in the workshop, which will be broadcast via the Zoom platform on the following link:
