A Attorney General’s Office (PGR) sent an opinion this Wednesday, 8, to the Supremo Tribunal Federal (STF), in which he defends the maintenance of the preventive detention of Colonel Jorge Eduardo Naime Barreto, former head of the Operations Department of the Military Police of the Federal District (PM-DF), in the inquiry that investigates his participation in the acts of 8 of January. According to the body, there is evidence that there was “concerted action” by high-ranking officials of the body, including the colonel. Arrested for more than a month, his detention was defended for alleged interference in investigations. “There are important investigations that need to be deepened and the freedom, at this moment, of Jorge Eduardo Naime Barreto could compromise them, considering the high position he held and his leadership in the corporation, which justifies the maintenance of preventive detention”, says the PGR . Signed by deputy prosecutor Carlos Frederico Santos, commander of the Strategic Group to Combat Anti-Democratic Acts, the document also requests that the Federal Police deliver, within a maximum period of 30 days, a partial report of the investigations carried out so far, including the results of the expertise on materials seized at an address linked to Naime. His defense had asked for the preventive detention to be revoked on the grounds that the colonel had resigned from his post on January 8. In this way, the lawyers claim, there was no way to be responsible for the execution of the operational security plan that should protect the headquarters of the Three Powers.
