URussia intensifies attack on Krain. Russian missiles attacked cities including the capital city of Kiev. By Thursday morning, Russia was simultaneously attacking several cities in Ukraine. Initial information is that five people were killed.
Four people were killed in a missile attack on a residential area of Lviv city. Three high-rise buildings collapsed in Lviv. More people are trapped in the rubble and rescue operations are underway, the Lviv administration said.
Ukraine’s power supply has been disrupted following widespread attacks. Power was cut off in cities including Kiev. There was also a Russian missile attack on Ukraine’s nuclear facilities.
Bakhmut falls
Meanwhile, the Russian army claimed to have captured half of the city of Bakhmut. This is an area where there is a fierce conflict between Ukraine and Russia. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has predicted that the western Ukrainian city of Bakhmut will be captured by Russia in the coming days.
The Wagner Group, a paramilitary organization of Russia, is stationed in the city of Bakhmut. International media reports that it is the bloodiest fighting in the year-long war.
President Zelensky has also admitted that Ukrainian forces are facing a major setback in Bakhmut. Zelensky’s response came after Bakhmut, where Russian forces may move to more cities in the Donetsk region.
If Bakhmut is captured, Russia can more easily access other areas of Ukraine. Therefore, the Ukrainian army has put up a huge resistance here. The Russian army was attacking from three sides of the city.
