“Papillomavirus (Hpv) represents a much more common problem than one might think. In particular, in recent years we are witnessing two main infection peaks: the first during the onset of sexual activity, between 18 and 25 years , and a second following the hormonal alterations and modifications of the vaginal microbiota that occur between the ages of 45 and 55”. This was explained by Rosa De Vincenzo, from the Department of Women’s, Children’s and Public Health Sciences at the Gemelli Polyclinic in Rome, speaking at the press conference to present the campaign ‘You’ve booked right?’, which was held this morning in the capital .

The speakers who took turns during the meeting underlined the importance of increasing the diffusion of vaccination against HPV, not only in young women, but also in older ones. The appointment was also an opportunity to highlight the importance of vaccination for males as well. “We tend to think that this problem is a pink infection, but it is not so – explains the expert – This is why it is so important to increase vaccination coverage. According to current estimates, a more widespread diffusion of the vaccine could reduce up to 44 % the rate of deaths related to HPV-related cancers”.
