Tonight airs (on Premium Cinema 1 at 9.15 pm) “Troy”, a film directed in 2004 by Wolfgang Petersen and inspired by Homer’s Iliad. The protagonist is Achilles (Brad Pitt), a semi-mortal hero who leads the Greek army in the war against Troy after Prince Paris (Orlando Bloom) son of Priam (Peter O’Toole), ruler of the rich city of Asia Minor , kidnapped Elena (Diane Kruger), the wife of the Spartan king Menelaus (Brendan Gleeson). After defeating Hector (Eric Bana) in an epic battle, Achilles will in turn be killed by Paris who, during the siege of Troy, will hit him in the heel, the only weak point of the demi-god. The latter, before expiring, will greet his beloved Briseide (Rose Byrne). “Troy” is a colossal full of special effects that mixes Homer’s story with episodes narrated in Virgil’s Aeneid. The gods disappear from the plot which does not lack blunders, anachronisms and rhetoric. Presented out of competition at the 57th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, the film was rejected by critics, but achieved a great success at the box-office: it cost 175 million dollars, collects 497. Waiting for the broadcast, here are 21 things that perhaps you don’t know.
