The 70s of a Don Pepe in the Cuban press

by time news

Our hug this March 8 for that gladiator of and for the Cuban press of the Revolution, who reaches his 70 years. I repeat on this day what I have already said about him: that we are honored to have this swordsman with a dazzling style, whose letters are always embroidered by the heart.

When he writes, he does not think of his own glory but of the pain of others. His columns are not an empty flirtation of love towards others and petulance of himself, but a real thrust for the good of others. Although he reaches 70 today, his age no longer matters, because he has reached the best age of all: that of “insolence.” Against which he disturbs the best desires of the people for him and for this world.

Pepe, that pepísimo of our journalism, is a survivor even of himself, but above all of those who wanted to make Cuban journalism, which comes from Varela and Martí, from Juan Gualberto and Pablo de la Torriente, a repetitive and tameable, with no real value, no genuine commitment or connection to the tremendous cause he champions.

Congratulations Pepe. I am honored, as I know so many colleagues and so many Cubans are, to have you among us.
