The President of the Nouakchott Regional Council and President of the United Cities and Local Governments of Africa, Ms. Fatimetou Mint Abel Malik has been participating since last Monday in New York (USA) in the work of the 67th session of the Commission on the Status of Women ( CSW).

For two weeks, representatives from governments, civil society, youth groups around the world and the UN will examine whether gender equality, empowerment and sustainable development can be achieved in the age digital.

The meeting will highlight online violence and other dangers that women and girls face, as well as the need for quality education in the information age.

Dozens of side events, including the UN Secretary-General’s annual dialogue with women’s and feminist civil society groups, a youth forum where special attention will be given to voices from the ground and at the community level are scheduled during the meeting which ends on Friday 17 March.

In her speech, the president of the regional council highlighted, during a conference of international actors, the role of African women and their considerable efforts to meet the challenges of development, calling for the need to support the informal sector. in which a large number of women entrepreneurs operate. She emphasized the value of vocational training for girls who were dropping out of school to enable them to contribute to the development process.

Mrs. Fatimetou Mint Abel Malik insisted, yesterday Tuesday, within the framework of the celebration of the international day of the local collectivities, in her capacity as president of the standing committee for the development of gender, on the need to give priority to women in basic services and to integrate them as essential and effective partners in local and regional development strategies.

The president of the regional council also had several meetings with international actors participating in the work of the CSW.
