MSP undertakes health actions against floods in Chone – Ministry of Public Health

The Ministry of Public Health (MSP) activated the early response phase for the contingency plan of the Napoleón Dávila Córdova General Hospital and the 17 first-level care units of the Chone canton, Manabí province; this in front of the rainy season events registered in the area.

Since March 6, 2023, Chone has been affected by considerable events such as heavy rains and storms. This has caused the accumulation of water in homes and susceptible roads, the overflow of bodies of water, the interruption of public services in various sectors and the closure of roads.

Preliminarily, a total of 2,000 affected families are estimated throughout the canton. The aforementioned establishments currently provide timely health care to users who were affected by floods and landslides, as well as patients who require health services for other reasons.

The personnel of District 13D07 Chone – Flavio Alfaro activated brigades in the communities to guarantee the attention of the population that is in their homes, with emphasis on vulnerable groups and priority attention.

To meet the needs of the population, the Ministry of Health manages the supply and necessary stock of medicines and biologicals for immunization processes in the community, as well as the supply of anti-venom serum for possible snake bites.

In view of the declaration of emergency, technical and logistical support was managed through prompt response teams deployed throughout the canton. Likewise, the Zonal Health Coordination 4 activated the Technical Work Table 2 (MTT2) and the organizations that are involved in the health field to analyze the current situation of the canton and the resources that can be provided.

The Ministry of Public Health will continue to work in a coordinated manner to collect information in the territory and promote health actions to preserve the well-being of the affected families in this canton.
