Due to the constant increase in the prices of propane gas (Liquefied Petroleum Gas -LPG-), as a result of the variation in international prices, the Congress of the Republic since 2021 has approved six subsidies.

This benefit has had a duration of three months and applies to cylinders of 10, 20, 25 and 35 pounds.

In accordance with the provisions of the Decrees, the regulations become effective one day after their publication in the Diario de Centro América.

However, the discounts may be applied until the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) publishes the corresponding regulation.

On Monday, March 6, the sixth temporary social support for propane gas consumers was approved, corresponding to Q0.80 for each pound of propane gas for the four cylinder presentations, the same as the previous subsidies.

Reference prices

On Monday, March 6, the reference prices were consulted for the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) distributor, Tropigas. When the regulation is published, these could be the reference prices that would apply in the country.

Modification to the budget

Through Decree 5-23, Congress approved a modification to the General State Budget 2023, for Q150 million in favor of the Ministry of Energy and Mines to cover the subsidy, which will be financed with resources from a decrease in cash and treasury resource banks.
