They will meet where Federico Martin Aramburu lost his life a year earlier. A tribute ceremony in memory of the former Argentinian rugby player, shot dead in the early morning of Saturday March 19, 2022, will take place on Sunday March 19 at 146 boulevard Saint-Germain, in the 6th arrondissement of Paris. The meeting is fixed at 11:15 a.m., while the moment of meditation will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the presence of the family and relatives of the former Biarritz player, murdered at 42 years old. The ceremony, organized by the City of Paris, is open to the public.
“We wanted to make a sober tribute, and with the agreement of his family on the date of this tragic anniversary”, indicates to the Parisian-Today in France the sports assistant to the mayor of Paris and ex-rugby player, Pierre Rabadan. A temporary plaque, in tribute to the former Pumas player who stayed in the Basque Country after his career, will be installed. Other personalities from the world of rugby could attend this tribute, organized the day after the last home match of the XV of France in the 2023 Six Nations Tournament against Wales. Former French internationals will be present at the Stade de France, as will, barring injury, the Blues scrum-half Maxime Lucu. The latter had dedicated to Federico Martin Aramburu the Grand Slam of the Blues in the competition, accomplished on the day of his death.
Federico Martin Aramburu had come to the capital precisely to attend this meeting of Fabien Galthié’s men against England. He and his friend and associate, ex-rugby player Shaun Hegarty, had gotten into an argument with others while having a drink at Le Mabillon bar in the Latin Quarter. A few minutes later, as the two men walked away from the establishment, the Argentinian was shot dead in the middle of the street.
The two alleged perpetrators of the assassination, Loïk Le Priol and Romain Bouvier, were arrested after fleeing. The first had been arrested in Hungary, the second in the Sarthe. Both men have since been charged with murder and remanded in custody.
Two other people were also indicted: Le Priol’s companion, Lyson Rochemir, suspected of having driven the car in which the two alleged perpetrators had fled on the day of the crime, and a man suspected of having helped Romain Bouvier to leave the capital.
