Wholesale inflation in Italy slowed significantly at the start of the year and was the lowest in more than 1.5 years.
The producer price index rose by 11.1 percent year-on-year in January, according to the Italian statistical office Istat. This is significantly less compared to December, when it jumped by 31.7 percent year-on-year. The pace of year-on-year growth in producer prices in January was the weakest since June 2021, when it reached 9.1 percent.
Energy prices increased by 10.8 percent year-on-year in January, after +80.2 percent in December. The prices of semi-finished products rose by 9.9 percent and the prices of consumer goods by 10.2 percent in January.
In a month-on-month comparison, producer prices fell by 7.5 percent in January after increasing by 2.9 percent in December.
